Big Panda has designed the brand, guidebook, photography, and visual language for thebeach.com. A travel guide conceived by Rob Barton with a focus on sustainable travel. The Beach is the Cayman-based designers loving homage to vestiges of authentic experiences in a world of pervasive homogony. Self-published, the guidebook and website feature a series of unique attractions that become a travel genre when viewed together.

After seeing the rapid growth in development on the island, and countless commercial options available to every visitor, Rob felt the urge to capture images of as many unique experiences as possible before they change forever. Inspired by the path less traveled, The Beach supports the best in local business. With a focus on local knowledge, the hand-picked collection showcases the best things to do, places to visit, and where to eat and drink in the Cayman Islands.

What’s more, The Beach is committed to preserving the beautiful coastal environment, which is why the editorial focus is packed full of useful information and interesting articles to help travelers minimise their impact.

To help the reader out on this photographic road trip, the Big Panda team included a small map graphic and the exact latitude and longitude coordinates for each location with the book’s simple titling. The Beach does far more than capture the remarkable beauty of our nation’s best experiences. It preserves a moment in time that is quickly fading, a period in the travel experience worth remembering when the journey was just as important as the destination.
