Autism Acceptance

Brand Identity

From personal experience to public purpose.

Knowing how demanding parenting can be, even with two neurotypical children, Big Panda Founder and Creative Director Rob Barton offered a simple gesture of support to his long-time client and friend, Chelsea Dawn-Rose.

Chelsea is a single mother of three. Her middle child is autistic and has significant support needs. Rob offered to help in whatever way he could. He did not imagine what would come next.

That conversation grew into an opportunity to give Cayman’s autism community a visible, confident and unifying identity.

The identity was developed through a series of interactive workshops led by autistic members of the community. Their experiences, responses and sensory perspectives actively shaped the design process. The workshops explored how colour, form and visual movement could feel to people who process sensory information differently. These insights informed an identity designed to work in harmony with the sensory perceptions of the community it represents. The process positioned the designer as a facilitator, creating the conditions for the community to shape the outcome. The result is an identity developed with autistic people at the centre of the process.

The form of the mark is inspired by patterns of neural connectivity, different ways of processing sensory information and structural variations found across regions of autistic brains. Its interconnecting shapes suggest pathways, relationships and patterns of communication. The form feels structured, fluid and interconnected, with each element contributing to the whole. The symbol acts as a visual metaphor for neurological diversity and for the many ways people connect, process, sense and understand the world.

Since its launch, Autism Acceptance has raised more than $300,000, enabling the organisation to open Cayman’s first dedicated autism support space while strengthening its role in community engagement and government advocacy. Shaped by the autistic community and grounded in empathy, the identity turned a deeply personal experience into a visible public platform for understanding, inclusion and lasting change across the Cayman Islands.
