Over 4.4 million blog posts are published each day, so how do you come up with content marketing that gets results?

With all of that content flooding the web, it makes it really difficult to create content that stands out. This is why when you blog, no one reads your content or shares it. 🙁

So how do you discover ideas that stand out? You know, content marketing that gets results that everyone wants to share, link to, and read.

Well, you’re in luck! Today, I’m going to show you how to come up with content ideas that will become popular.

Here’s how…

Step #1 – Head over to Ubersuggest and type in a keyword phrase you want to write a blog post on and click “Search”. Ideally, you will want to pick a one or two-word key phrase such as “broadband speed”.

Step #2 – On the left-hand navigation click on “Content Ideas”.

This will take you to a handy report.

What this report shows you are some of the top blog posts currently on the web. You can see each is broken down by estimated monthly visits from Google, total backlinks, Facebook shares and repin’s on Pinterest.

If a topic has a good amount of all of these elements, then it’s worth writing about.

Step #3 – Pick one of the top blog posts you wish were on your site. Look for a good number of estimated visits (at least 75), a decent total backlink count (at least 10), and social shares. For this example, I’m going to pick “One Ingredient Ice Cream, Five Ways”.

Make sure you’re not picking content from a brand that is much bigger than yours. For example, you won’t want to pick content written by sites everyone knows like CNN because it’s not hard for content to become popular when you have millions of visitors already.

Step #4 – Rewrite the selected post and MAKE IT BETTER using “The Skyscraper Technique”.

The Skyscraper technique is a content writing strategy where you do something better than the competition, so much better you naturally will get more attention and press.

Just think of skyscrapers, when anyone says they are building the next biggest building, it naturally creates press. Or when Dubai released the first 7-star hotel, everyone knew about it, they didn’t even have to spend a dollar on marketing.

Essentially, this tactic will get you tons of eyeballs, social shares, people linking to your site and of course higher Google rankings.

To do this you will also want to make sure you are using similar keywords in your blog post. To find the appropriate keywords click the “keywords” button under “Est. Visits” (Estimated Visits).

You’ll then see a list of keywords that this blog post focuses on.

You’ll want to go through all of the keywords here and keep clicking the “Next 10” button as these are the keywords you’ll want to mention in your blog post.

Once you do that, you’ll see a long list of keywords that drive traffic to that specific page. Go through all of the keywords and export them to CSV.

Step #5 – Since you’re improving the blog post you will want to reach out to as many sites as you can that have linked to the original. You can find what sites have linked to the post by clicking the “links” button under “Backlinks”.

You’ll see a list of sites linking to the original article.

Once your article is up, go to each website and reach out to them through their contact page or through an email address that you find on their site. Let them know about your article, how it’s better, and how their audience will enjoy reading it.

You’ll find that many of these sites will link to you, which will boost your Google rankings.

Voila! Content marketing that gets results- it really is that simple. 🙂
